Access Statement for Number 61 Guest House and Tea Rooms

Introduction
Our Georgian Guest House (circa 1760) is situated in a conservation area set in the coastal village of Tynemouth and approximately 200 metres from the sea, the historic Priory and Castle. Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features which could make access difficult for those with limited mobility. The entrance to the guest house is on the main street and up three steps. Within the guest house there are several flights of stairs and, with no ground floor bedrooms, is unsuitable for wheel chair users.

Number 61 Guest House is located in a picturesque, historic village with many restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops.

We are ideally situated for public transport, taxis are available in the street; a bus stop is at the end of the street two minutes walk away; the local metro train service is approximately five minutes’ walk away. This service will take you directly into Newcastle in about 25 minutes.

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities
Please advise us of your estimated time of arrival. We request registration to be between 2.00 pm and 6.00 pm if possible, however, other arrival times are possible by arrangement.

On street car parking is normally available outside the property. There is a charge of 60p per hour between 9.00 am and 5.30 pm, with overnight parking free. Guests can request a parking permit.

We offer assistance with luggage.

Main Entrance and Reception
Access to the front door is on the main street, up three steps.

There is a bell to the right of the door and a large knocker on the door itself.

The reception area is in the hallway.

Public Areas – Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc
On entering the front door the breakfast room (which operates as a tea room during the day) is along the hall and down 8 steps with a handrail and to the left. It is overlooking the Victorian walled garden.

From the entrance door there is a hallway then a set of 9 stairs on the left hand side, with supporting handrail, leading to accommodation at first floor level, garden facing guest room.

Another set of 9 stairs with hand rail takes you to two village facing guest rooms on the second floor.

Another set of 10 stairs with hand rail takes you to our river view balcony room of the second floor.

Another set of 9 stairs with hand rail takes you to two village facing guest rooms on the third floor.

Another set of 8 stairs with hand rail takes you to our river view guest room on the third floor.

A further set of 8 stairs takes you to our village facing guest room on the fourth floor.

Public Areas
A guest lounge is available in the evenings and Number 61 Tea Rooms are open at set times during the week.

Public WC’s

There is a toilet located in the Tea Rooms on the lower ground floor.

Restaurant/Dining Room
Breakfast is served in our Tea Room on the lower ground floor at the left rear of the house.

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and all other diets are catered for by prior arrangement.


Bedrooms and sleeping areas
One bedroom located on the first floor. Three bedrooms are located on the second floor, three on the third floor and one on the fourth floor.

All rooms have en-suite facilities with a shower, wash basin and toilet.

Each room has complimentary toiletries including shower gel/shampoo and hand wash.

Each room has a Digital Television.

We also provide a hair dryer and the use of an iron/ironing board.

A selection of books and magazines are available as well as a file giving information on the area, restaurants, places of interest and details of emergency contacts including doctors and hospitals.


Laurel is on the first floor overlooking the garden. It has a double bed with access from both sides.


Oswin is on the second floor to the left overlooking Tynemouth village. It has a double bed with access from both sides.

 

Bronte is on the second floor overlooking Tynemouth village. It has twin beds.

 

Collingwood is on the second floor to the right up 10 steps and has a balcony with panoramic views across the River Tyne and coastline. It has a kingsize bed with access from both sides.

 

Burnett is on the third floor to the left overlooking Tynemouth village. It has twin beds.

 

Dickens is on the third floor to the right up 8 steps and has panoramic views across the River Tyne and coastline. It has a double bed with access from both sides.

 

Byron is on the fourth floor overlooking Tynemouth village. It has a double bed.

 

Each room has a bedside table(s), drawers, bedside lamp(s) and wardrobe.

 

The beds are made with duvets, sheets and two pillows per person.

Fire Safety
There are heat and smoke detectors in every room in the building as well as audible fire sirens and all rooms have fire notices.

There are fire extinguishers on every landing and one in the kitchen. There are also fire alarms on each floor.

In the event of a fire a loud siren will activate automatically. Please vacate the building through the front door and assemble at the designated fire point outside and wait for instructions. Please inform us if you have a hearing impairment and might not hear this.

Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms (password provided on request from House Manager)

 

We do provide overnight storage for a limited number of bicycles. Please advise us on booking if you wish to bring your bicycle.

 

Smoking is not permitted on the premises.

 

We regret we do not accept pets.

 

We are happy to cater for special diets, please advise us of these prior to your arrival.

 

We are happy to refrigerate any medication you may need.

 

We do not allow take away meals to be consumed in the bedrooms.

Hours of operation for Guest House: We are open all year but will close occasionally for decorating and maintenance.

Tea Rooms are open:

Summer - April to September: Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 4.30pm
Winter - October to March: Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 2.00pm
All Year Round: Saturday and Sunday from 10.00am to 4.30pm.
